How do you like getting up every weekday and going to work? It is really fun, right? Okay, probably not. If you are interested in becoming one of the work at home moms out there, but your employer doesn’t want you to, then you will have to look for another company that is willing to provide such employment. In effect you are going to be job searching. We all know what that can be like and sometimes how long it can take to be successful at finding another job. Right now you will find that the work from home option is growing in popularity, but there is a long way to go before it becomes the norm with most businesses.

And then there is something else that people can do, but may have briefly thought about in passing, but never really considered. If you are really serious about joining the
work at home moms, have you ever considered starting your own business? Many people have taken this route and the numbers are growing yearly. With the growth of the Internet the opportunities to have your own home Internet-based business are astounding.

But I hope you are prepared for something perhaps a little different. In other words, you will have to work - probably more hours than your normal job. And this is also true if you start your own online business like other work at home moms have done. An online business can be very rewarding, but unless you are familiar with a lot of things about working online, for example, the marketing strategies, there will be a lot of new things you will need to learn.

There is a misconception among most people about a
home business. You may have been told that if you work at home you will only need to put in a couple of hours per day and then the rest of the day is yours. Sounds great, if you are only going to operate your business on a part time basis while you keep your day job. And then your work will start when you get home after your eight or nine hour day at your job. Sometimes that can be very difficult to do. And often you will find yourself just too tired to do anything. So you need to think seriously about how you will approach your business. Like other work at home moms, you will need to prepare yourself for extra work until your home business can be sufficient enough to become your primary source of income.

Most importantly, remember that success takes time, patience and determination. It will not happen immediately, but it will happen. Don’t fall victim to any work at home business opportunity that tells you it will only take a couple of hours each day and you’ll get rich. Be prepared to work if you want to be successful. And when you think about it, the best home business that you can get into for your financial future is one that provides you with residual income.

How Important is Spousal Support to a Work at Home Internet Marketer

Many of the people I meet and work with online are married or have a significant other in their life. Some are work at home moms, dads and grandparents. The desire to make money online working from home is often, at least in part, due to wanting to create a better future for their family, but they are also wanting to create a better “now” as well.

Working from home allows one parent to be at home and available to the children or other family members. It can greatly add to the comfort and security of the entire family, and that is certainly often a motivating factor. But starting a home based business is really no different than starting an offline business. It takes time to build. In addition to time, it takes some capital. The saying it takes money to make money is absolutely true. An internet marketing business requires less capital than a traditional brick and mortar business, but it only makes sense that you do have to spend some money to make some.

What if your spouse or significant other is discouraged with your efforts? What kind of impact will that have on your business? The simple answer is the impact your spouse’s attitude has on your business is really up to you. There is no simple solution however, and it is an issue faced by many. For many of those who are dealing with this issue, the spouse’s lack of belief in them can be a huge burden. And that is truly what it boils down to. A lack of belief. The work at home spouse feels that his or her spouse has no confidence or belief in them, when the truth often is that the spouse just doesn’t understand the business.

Communication is key. In my early marketing days, my spouse was less than supportive. He was tolerant, but he resented the time and money that I was spending on my business. It was bringing me down. His lack of faith began to make me question mine. Could I really make money online? Why was it taking me so long? What was I missing? And the big one… was it worth it?

One day I sat down him down and started a conversation with him about our options. I explained my reasons for wanting to build a home based business - my reasons involved making his life easier and being available for our children. I told him that I was confident that I could make money online, but that his attitude was getting in my way. We talked about what starting an offline business would look like, and he had to agree that he would not expect instant results if we were building a traditional brick and mortar business. I asked him to give me his support and encouragement, and told him that I needed to know he believed in me.

That was a turning point for us, and for our business. My husband became more involved. He worked on a schedule with me where I could work uninterrupted while he spent time with the kids, and a few other small consessions that really were huge. Without the pressure from feeling like I had to generate a ton of cash flow in very little time, I was able to focus my attention where it needed to be. I stopped acting desparate, and the money started to trickle in. That trickle continued to grow, and with the growth of income, my husband’s belief and excitement grew - with increased belief came increased support and encouragement and it continues to grow.

I realize that not all spouses are as wonderful as mine, and have considered where I would be without his support. It would have been harder, but I would have perservered. It would have taken longer to achieve what I have, but I really didn’t like my options. I had a strong enough desire to build my home based business that I would have found a way to make it work. Many of the work at home people that I have spoken to who are dealing with an unsupportive spouse acknolwedge that they have not really brought their spouse into the fold. They have, for one reason or another, believed that there was no use in attempting to explain.

The bottom line is that good communication is key to a good marriage, and I highly recommend that you make your first sale by selling your home business dreams, desires to your spouse. It just might improve your overall relationship!
